New Options Hair Care

This is an e-commerce site for hair care products. We developed a completely new look for New Options. In addition to the design and development of the website itself, we designed a new logo, new product labels, and handled all of the photography (I am a professional photographer too) for the site. That included a model shoot, as well as individual product shots.
In terms of e-commerce, since there was relatively small number of products, we created a 2-tier platform whereby all the products are displayed on one page, and then individual products can be access and purchased by clicking on any one product. By leveraging the power of WordPress, we were able to easily build the online store. The actual transaction is handled by Foxy Cart as the shopping cart solution.
Finally, we intergrated the client’s social media presence into the site, so the visitor can easily participate in the various social media options for New Options.
Gordon James Music

This is yet another WordPress site. It is primarily asite featuring the music of Gordon James, renowned flugelhornist. This site leverages many social media sites such as YouTube and Facebook, among others, as well as CD Baby. The beauty of this strategy is that by utilizing resources from other websites, the bandwidth of the hosting server is not taxed.
In real terms, this means that, for example, the videos on Gordon’s site are stored and accessed on YouTube, even though the videos are embedded in Gordon’s site pages. The same holds true for iTunes and CD Baby. There is an iTunes “widget” that allows the user to puchase Gordon;s CDs directly from iTunes. iTunes handles the entire sales transaction, as well as allowing the user to hear a clip of the songs, and none of this uses the server where Gordon’s site is hosted. The same is true for the CD Baby “widget” found on the Music page of the site, except in this case the user can purchase the CDs from CD Baby instead of iTunes.
This strategy not only preserves server bandwidth, but cuts development costs as well, since there is no need to set up a shopping cart on Gordon’s site. All of the “heavy lifting” is accomplished by 3rd party sites, at no cost to Gordon!
Candy’s Cottage

This is yet another WordPress site. It is primarily an e-commerce site featuring beach decor items. There are over 150 products available for sale online at the Candy’s Cottage website. WordPress 3 is powerful enough to handle all of the CMS (content management system) requirements for a site of this size. Products are displayed under categories and sub-categories, and finally as individual products.
The shopping cart functionality is supplied by Foxy Cart, which supplies secure shopping via Authorize.net for online credit card transactions. Addirtionally, there is a blog within the site called Candy’s Corner, where the store owner, Candy Galekovik, can write articles about her store and it’s products. This is a very nice-to-look-at site that provided a lot of under-the-hood power thanks to WordPress.

This site was built in WordPress. It was a fairly complicated project. Besides requesting a top-to-bottom redesign, the client had several requests regarding functionality that was outside of what is normally provided by WordPress. As a result, some custom programming was required.
First of all, there is a registration form that, once submitted, would generate an email notification to the site owner, alerting her to a new registrant. Additionally, the form data would them be archived and accessible via the admin console in WordPress, so the owner could login and view the form submission. This required some additional security measures to protect these archived pages as well.. Secondly, we embedded a Google Calendar into the Events page. Those calendar events are also displayed in the right sidebar of the Monthly Newsletter page. This required custom code that would extract the event data and list it chronologically in that sidebar. Additionally, a daily event appears in the header on the Home page. If there is no daily event, nothing appears.
All-in-all it was well worth the effort, because the site is not only attractive but very functional.

This is a very simple, low-cost site consisting of 4 pages……yet, we built the entire site in WordPress. The client wanted the ability to self-edit content, as well as be able to expand functionality in the future.
WordPress was the logical choice, as so much functionality is built in. If the client decides to add a blog at some point, or online sales, or whatever, all we’ll need to do in most cases is go in and activate that functionality in WordPress, or add to it via a plugin, or if need be, create some custom functionality.
Art 629 – A Gallery

This site is for an art gallery. The deal was to create a site that could archive past shows, display the upcoming show, and also the current show, of course. All of this, while allowing the site owner to add content for each show himself. WordPress to the rescue! By taking advantage of WordPress’ core archiving functionality, plus a few coding tweaks, mission accomplished.
Lastly, this site features a fully-functional email list program, so a site visitor can sign up to subscribe, and receive a newsletter custom designed to match the “look and feel” of the site. Awesome!

Pat wanted to update his website and have his pieces scroll across the Home page behind his image. When the user clicks on one of the pieces, it pops up with all relevant info. Additionally, he wanted blog functionality, so as soon as I heard that, I thought “WordPress”!
We built the scrolling functionality and added the pages for each art piece that would pop up all within WordPress, and of course, the blog itself. WordPress is flexible enough to allow designers the freedom to expand it’s functionality…..giving Pat exactly what he wanted.

Another site built inside of WordPress. This site features a photo gallery, tutorial videos and several custom forms. Pretty standard stuff, but the beauty lies in the fact that content can be added by the user. tis is what makes WordPress such a popular framework to develop with…….the fact that at the end of the design process, we can hand the site over to the owner and he or she will never need us again…..no wait….that can’t be good can it?
but seriously folks, I never liked the idea of having the client contact me about minor text changes or adding more copy, images, etc. WordPress ensures that the client can handle the minor tweaks, and contact us for any additions in terms of design or functionality.

This site was NOT built in WordPress! Yes, I can build up a site by simply hand-coding it. The client did not require a lot of updating so I saw no reason to complicate the issue. The site features some custom forms with a custom PHP mail script to make it happen.
Forms are not the most fun a designer can have on a project. They are tedious to build and somewhat cumbersome to style. I won’t lie. Any designer that says he love building forms and can’t wait to build yours is lying. However, we do build ‘em, and we build ‘em right! What else can we say?

This is an e-commerce site. we partnered with Bob Vale at Graphic Word, who is an awesome designer. We supplied backend work via Zen Cart. Zen Cart is a feature-rich e-commerce platform that is very popular, as well as powerful. As a result, the client can add new products themselves if the wish.
As it turns out, they don’t wish, so we usually go in and set up new products. The fact is, there is a lot to web apps like Zen Cart, so there is a learning curve involved. The take-away here is, we are more than happy to help you learn how to maintain your site, but we’re here if you need us to do it!
